Bag-in / Bag-out System
A bag-in/bag-out system is the safest and most practical way to maintain confinement when you are removing contaminants from a glovebox or changing glovebox filters.
A bag-in/bag-out system is a specialized port on a glovebox that allows you to package contaminants with a barrier material, such as film or foil, before you remove the contaminants from the glovebox. This feature allows you to safely remove and dispose of contaminants such as viable organisms, radioactive dust, and carcinogens from the glovebox. Because the contaminants are wrapped while they are within the glovebox, the glovebox atmosphere is never breached: operators are not exposed to the contaminants and the external atmosphere remains uncontaminated.
The bag-in/bag-out system also allows operators to change filters without coming into direct contact with any toxic materials the filter element has collected during its service life. As with contaminants, used filters can be safely wrapped with a barrier material before being removed from the glovebox.
Bag-in/bag-out systems can also be used to maintain confinement when you are transferring powders. Powders can egress past the seals of your rapid transfer port. Placing powders in a secondary container and using the bag-in/bag-out system can eliminate this potential source of contamination and damage.
