Gloveboxes · System AccessoriesCryogenic TrapsCryogenic liquids are frequently used as a coolant because of their low boiling point. Liquid nitrogen is especially useful because of its low toxicity and because it does not support combustion. A cryogenic trap can perform several functions as part of your glovebox. Oil-sealed pumpIn an oil-sealed vacuum pump, a cryogenic trap can prevent oil vapor from backstreaming into the main chamber and interfering with the process within. The cryogenic trap consists of a container of liquid nitrogen within a housing. The liquid nitrogen condenses any oil vapor into a solid, preventing oil vapor contamination. Gas input linesA cryogenic trap as part of a gas input system can remove contaminant gas or vapors from the mainstream gas. Liquid nitrogen or another cryogenic gas condenses the contaminant gases and bonds them to the cold surface. The mainstream gas (which must have a lower melting point) continues through the line. Remember that cryogenic materials require special handling because they can be extremely hazardous:
Find out more about our cryogenic trapsBecause of these hazards, a controlling device to monitor and maintain the liquid nitrogen level is recommended.
