Dust, HEPA, and ULPA Filters
Filters are a vital part of your glovebox, especially as requirements for creating and maintaining gas purity continue to increase. Filters perform several functions:
Protect the environment from harmful particulates that could be released when the glovebox is accessed or vented
Protect the material in the glovebox from environmental particulates that could enter the glovebox
Protect your equipment from the materials within the glovebox
Your glovebox can include several types of filters:
An inlet/supply filter to prevent workers from coming in contact with any products within the glovebox should the box become positively pressurized
A prefilter to collect large particulates before the inlet HEPA filter
A HEPA or ULPA filter to trap smaller particulates and contain toxic materials
An exhaust filter to trap any remaining particulates before exhaust air is passed out to the external exhaust system
Filters are usually installed within a bag-in/bag-out filter housing or mounted on top of the glovebox. Filters mounted on top of the glovebox can be pushed into the glovebox when they need to be replaced, so they can be removed through the bag-in/bag-out system.
Filters must be selected to specifically match the needs of your process. HEPA filters are rated at 99.99% efficient at removing particles down to 0.3 micron, while ULPA filters are rated at 99.999% efficient at removing particles down to 0.12 micron.
